* In an effort to maintain current records, we ask that all volunteers fill out the volunteer application. If you served on a KW project and filled out an application in 2015, there is an option to fill out the Alumni Application, which is considerably shorter. You must complete the Alumni Application prior to the Project Sign Up form.
PROJECT OVERVIEW: Builders For Christ is assisting Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menasha, WI, to construct a 4,400 ft, addition and help with some remodeling. Bethel is a mission congregation with 425 members whose particular focus is Hispanic ministry. Menasha is located in central Wisconsin, 30 miles north of Fond du Lac. There are many things to see and do!
Construction is block wall with steel studs interior and wood trusses Volunteers will build two pastor's offices, a large gathering room and welcome area, pre-school director's office, restrooms, and a mothers room.
The three main phases of work and estimated time frames are:
Phase 1 - Trusses, roofing, exterior windows & doors, roughing in. (June 6-July 1)
Phase 2 - Interior doors, insulating, dry-wall, fascia, remodeling. (July 5-July 29)
Phase 3 - Painting, remodeling, interior, finish work. (Aug. 1- Aug. 24)
What should I bring? Volunteers use their own personal tools, such as a hammer, nail belt, 1”x25’ tape measure, speed square, utility knife with blades, pry bar, and chalk line. All other tools are provided by BFC.
HOUSING: Accommodations have been made for an onsite campground with 12 camp sites available. A BFC camper is available to rent at $75/week (first-time volunteers have preference). There is also housing available with some of the members as well as a few hotels in the area. If housing is required, please inform the project manager prior to arrival. Volunteers should not arrive at a site unless housing is arranged with the project manager at least two weeks in advance. Failure to make proper arrangements may result in space being unavailable.
FOOD: The church will furnish a noon meal and two breaks. Volunteers are responsible for their own meals in the morning, evening, and on non-working days. Anyone not involved with the day-to-day building process are encouraged to assist the church members with the meals and break snacks as needed.
COSTS TO CONSIDER:
Transportation: Airfare or mileage
Housing: RV, hotel, homestay
Food: Volunteers cover any meal not provided by the church
