PROJECT OVERVIEW: Builders For Christ is assisting Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, MI, in building an addition to their existing church facility. Zion is a small congregation of about 100 souls. Their original facility was built in the early 70s. They are in desperate need of additional room. BFC is helping build a 33'x 57' addition to their facility. The new area will provide them with two much needed classrooms, ADA compliant rest rooms, a mother's room, church office, narthex, and storage.
The three main phases of work are:
Phase #1 – Rough framing, Trusses, Roofing, Window/doors, Interior walls (approx. June 7 to July 2)
Phase #2 – Carport, Siding, Insulation, Drywall (approx. July 5 to July 30)
Phase #3 – Exterior finish, Painting, Interior finish (approx. August 2 to August 20)
Volunteers use their own personal tools, such as a hammer, nail belt, 1”x25’ tape measure, speed square, utility knife with blades, pry bar, and chalk line. All other tools are provided by BFC.
HOUSING: The project is scheduled for 12 weeks, running from June 7 to August 20. There is onsite camping, with space for 16 RVs. Housing is also available through congregation members and area motels at a reduced rate.
FOOD: The church furnishes a noon meal and two breaks. Volunteers are responsible for their own meals in the morning, evening, and on nonworking days. Anyone not involved with the day-to-day building process are encouraged to assist the church members with the meals and break snacks as needed.
COSTS TO CONSIDER:
Transportation: Airfare or mileage
Housing: RV, hotel, homestay
Food: Volunteers cover any meal not provided by the church
FUNDRAISING: Volunteers are welcome to fundraise to cover project expenses managed through Kingdom Workers like airfare, local transportation, food, housing, and applicable program fees. Kingdom Workers provides many resources to assist volunteers in their fundraising efforts. All funds must be raised or personally donated prior to serving.
Important note: Funds raised on a Kingdom Workers gifting site may not be used for the cost of flight reservations booked directly by the volunteer, car rentals, immunizations, passport, personal items purchased for the trip, or personal living expenses at home while on the mission trip.
