Our two teams covered two weeks of VBS prepping and teaching at Hope Lutheran Church in Louisville, Kentucky. During the first week we spent much of our time handing out flyers in the surrounding neighborhood. The diversity of the neighborhood was apparent as we traveled from well-manicured suburban homes to smaller, low cost apartment buildings. Less than a block away from the church also stands a Hindu temple. One man who received a flyer appreciated the invite and gave his son a break from mowing to discuss VBS. The first week also consisted of prepping the church fellowship hall for VBS; this included the construction of a train out of cardboard refrigerator boxes.
Our second team assisted the church in their VBS program. The train theme focused children on the fact that Jesus leads us through life and into heaven. Team two led the children in songs, crafts, and Bible skits. The week concluded with a presentation for the parents inside the church sanctuary and a picnic for the families. We all had a wonderful experience. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve Hope Lutheran. We are also thankful for the Christian kindness and hospitality that the members of Hope showed us.
Pastor Caleb Davisson
God says in Matthew 28: “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” This past summer I was able to do just that. I was very blessed that I was able to travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to help spread the gospel. There were many things that we did, such as canvassing, and getting the church ready for the summer Bible camp being held the next week. I will encourage others to participate in mission trips like this one, it was an amazing experience and a highlight of my summer. I was able to learn a lot and I am looking forward to hopefully being able to do this again.
