This was my first mission trip, and I cannot wait to go on my next trip! Mission trips are a breath of fresh air. They allow you to gain a new perspective and get to know a variety of people. Peace Lutheran was one of the most friendly churches I have ever seen. They are welcoming of new guests, they appreciate everyone who participates, and each members is active in the growth of their faith.

We began each morning spending an hour stuffing flyers into plastic bags to hang on doors. We would then spend three hours distributing those flyers (about 600 flyers.) Our mission team took a break for lunch and a little bit of relaxing during the heat of the day, and then hit the pavement for canvassing for another three hours. We would ask people for surveys to get to know the community and how best to serve it.  We would hand out about 200 flyers during this time. Our work was mainly to get the word out that Peace Lutheran is indeed a nearby church that is Christ-centered and completely based on the Word of God. Many people did not know where we were located, and we had the opportunity to share Peace's information. Saturday, many members of the congregation signed up to distribute flyers to certain communities.

We had our best conversations while we were taking surveys of the neighborhood. One man in particular we talked to for about 10 minutes. He had not always gone to church with his wife and kids, because he felt that there was something missing from the mega-church they attended. He did not feel the true Word of God was being taught. We explained to him about Peace's devotion to God's Word and Christ, and he seemed genuinely interested, and said see you in two weeks for our Easter service.

Another memorable moment was when we approached a mother reading on her front porch. We began our survey and found out she did not have a church in which she actively participated.  She said they were looking for a church, and as soon as she said they were looking, her young daughter who was listening in the window cheered "Yaaay!!". The little girl was excited her parents were looking for a church! That was awesome to hear as a future teacher, and shows that faith is shown in small children too.  Peace has a great program for children to hear the message at a lower level during the sermon, and we told the mother of our family centered style of worship.

Overall, this mission trip not only helped Peace Lutheran, but it helped me grow in my willingness to serve and encouraged me in my ministry to preach the gospel. Hundreds of thousands of people need the to hear God's Word. Romans 10:14-15 summarizes all mission work perfectly. "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
