By Emily ManteufelThe theme at Bible camp in Belmont, California was Camp Discovery. Each day, the campers learned new verses that corresponded with the focus on the day. For example, on Monday the take home point was "Discover Jesus, he gives me courage". To emphasize this point, the children learned " Be strong and courageous. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9. Each of the daily versus had sign language to go with it.
On the last day of camp the campers enjoyed leading their group by individually doing the actions of one of the passages. In the picture, a student is demonstrating the actions from one of the passages they learned that week. Then, the other students had the opportunity to raise their hand and recall the reference to the verse (that had just been demonstrated with only sign language).
Another activity the campers enjoyed was leading each other in song. All of the songs had sign language to go with them. At the end of the week the students got in groups and took turns being the leaders of the sign language. Each group stood in front of the church for one song and then led their fellow students in the words and actions. The campers really enjoyed this because they were able to show what they had learned about Christ in their songs.
