After our flight landed safely, our very first impression of the Phoenix experience was though our lifestyles may be different from one another, we are all one in Christ. We were welcomed into the church Sunday morning just as it was our home church. After the service, we enjoyed visiting during fellowship time followed by a brief Bible study. The congregation openly invited us to a bowling outing, and even though our bowling skills were not the greatest, it was a great way to get to know the members of the church.
We all know that Arizona is known for its extreme temperatures this time of year, but we were both very shocked just how hot it really was. We have adapted very well and are continually drinking water!

Upon arrival at Deer Valley Lutheran Church, children began flowing in with excitement. To welcome the children, we sang and danced to our favorite Christian songs. The children were all smiles. The children were told they are acting as the Israelites this week as the theme is Wilderness Escape. The group was split into four tribes, and we each were a leader of a tribe. Today, they were taught that “God is with us, so trust God!” During our first adventure, we were led by Moses through the Red Sea. The kids also loved the opportunity to make crafts, play games, and have snack. The crafts were used to decorate each of the tents, and the kids left looking forward to the rest of the week. It is such a blessing to see the Holy Spirit working within these children as they grow in their faith. We are very fortunate to have the ability to assist and encourage them during their journey at Vacation Bible School.
