Communicating Christ Today is designed so that it does not have to be taught by a pastor. The course is successfully used by lay people who teach it in the homes of relatives, neighbors, and friends – sharing Christ one-on-one.
The History
The 1980′s ushered in a media explosion. With cable television many of us can enjoy many different channels. Over a thousand magazines are published regularly, not to mention local and national newspapers. There are satellite dishes, VCR’s and camcorders in homes all across the country.
The age of media technology is here. By using these technologies, the Christian church has the potential to reach thousands of souls relatively quickly and inexpensively. Statistics prove it is easier to learn with visual aides. Video is more interesting – and in today’s world, almost expected.
Pastor Carl Leyrer, a former WELS missionary in Bogota, Colombia, understood the great need to reach people with the clear gospel message. He proposed putting this message on video tape, but did not have resources to carry it out. WELS Kingdom Workers offered to help, and together with Pastor Leyrer’s ideas and script, Communicating Christ – A Video Bible Information Course was produced.
